BBC News reported in April 2005 on the Greek government's reaction to a new suggested name put forward by the United Nations' envoy Matthew Nimitz, in an attempt to solve the naming dispute opposing Greece and FYR Macedonia.

The Greek Foreign minister stated the government was not entirely happy with the proposed 'Republic of Makedonia-Skopje' but vowed to use it as a starting point for negotiations. The Macedonian Prime Minister reacted cooly to the suggested denomination.
