Greek unions staged walkouts and a protest on the 29 February 2012, part of a Europe-wide mobilisation, hours after fresh budget cuts linked to a new eurozone bailout were approved by a wide parliamentary majority. The Greek government raced to meet deadlines set by international lenders for launching a €130bn second bail-out.

The Greek parliament approved a package of healthcare cuts in the early hours of 1 March 2012, completing legislation demanded by international lenders in return for a second €130bn bail-out only hours ahead of a key meeting of eurozone finance ministers.
