Iceland Review Online aims to provide coverage and analysis of some of the stories making headlines in the Icelandic media in the form of news stories and opinion pieces as well as provide other useful information for both English-speakers in Iceland and travelers to the country. It also reviews the latest Iceland-related books, films, music and art. Iceland Review Online was established in 1996.Formal coalition talks between the Independence Party, the Reform Party and Bright Future began on the 2 January 2017 in a further attempt by Icelandic political parties to form a government following the October 2016 election which left no clear majority party.

A government from these three political parties was announced on the 10 January 2017.

Some reports suggested that Iceland might hold a new referendum on possible membership of the European Union.
