Date: 29/10/1998 Former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl was absent from the summit, presumably trying to work out how to fill his free time now that he no longer has the weight of the EU on his not insubstantial shoulders. But the burly German was present in spirit in Austria last weekend. Union leaders decided to award him the honorary title of 'Citizen of Europe' to mark his contribution to European integration. |
