General Motors said March 2010 it was studying a proposal from its Belgian employees to keep its Antwerp plant open to build vehicles on contract for other carmakers. GM, which wants to close the plant as part of a plan to cut capacity at its European Opel/Vauxhall operations by 20%, said it had made no decision on the plan. In April 2010 it was announced that General Motors had agreed a deal with unions to close the Opel plant in Antwerp, removing an obstacle to completing long-running talks on the restructuring of its European operations. |
