Ghosts of empire haunting Europe

Editorial article. Tension between Slovakia and Hungary during August 2009 has turned the spotlight on the question of national minorities in Europe, an issue that was supposed to have been consigned to history. Editorial argues that 'Europe' must demand protection of minorities inside and outside the EU, but also strongly criticise their use as proxies by meddlesome outsiders.
