Transport Commissioner Neil Kinnock, not renowned as a great lover of royalty, has come out in favour of Britain's right to keep its national symbol, the Queen's head, on any future euro notes.

The European Central Bank's decision to ban national symbols “oversteps the mark, and I don't mean the deutschemark,” said Kinnock at a recent conference.
