Bert Rürup, newly appointed member of the German government's council of economic advisers, took issue with the European Central Bank on 6.3.00, saying that he saw little need to raise interest rates in the euro-zone. He felt employment was a bigger problem than inflation and that a rate rise could slow economic growth in the euro-zone.
