Speaking on 28 August 2003 at the presentation of a report by a Government-backed Commission on pension and health reform (the Rürup Commission), Germany's Health and Social Security Minister, Ulla Schmidt, indicated that raising the retirement age to 67 and cutting pensions were ideas likely to be included in pensions reform proposals to be tabled in October 2003.
