Germany set to extend shopping hours

Germany's Bundesrat voted on 24 September 2004 to transfer responsibility for regulations on shops' opening hours from central government to the country's 16 states. Most states have said they would abolish all restrictions. The Bundestag must still approve the Bill, before the states can modify their rules.
