EUObserver reports that Germany made it clear in May 2011 that it was unhappy with the 'exorbitant' cost of the EU's international nuclear fusion project, Iter EU, and called for more transparency on spending.

ITER is a large-scale scientific experiment that aims to demonstrate that it is possible to produce commercial energy from fusion.
