Germany has reached the European Union’s employment goals two years early, according to official figures from the Federal Statistical Agency published on the 30 October 2007. The figures underscore the strength of the labour market recovery in Europe’s largest economy.

Data showed 40.05m Germans had jobs in September 2007, or 70.7 per cent of the population. This puts Germany in line with the 2010 employment goals agreed by the EU as part of its so-called 'Lisbon Strategy'.
