A German court freed Mamoun Darkazanli, a suspected al-Qaeda financier on 18 July 2005, ruling that the European Arrest Warrant had not been incorporated into German law in a way that was compatible with the country's constitution. Spain wanted Mr Darkazanli extradited because it suspects him of providing al-Qaeda with logistical and financial support.
