German MEP Manfred Weber was elected on 4 June 2014 as the new chairman of the of the European People's Party group at the European Parliament. In November 2016, Mr Weber was re-elected for a new mandate as leading figure of the centre-right group in the chamber.

Manfred Weber was first elected to the European Parliament (EP) in 2004. Between 2006 and 2009 he coordinated the EPP group's activities in the EP's Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee. In 2009, he was elected vice-chairman of the EPP group.
