Franco-German relations, normally good, are likely to become strained as Germany prepares to support the European Commission in its battle against growing protectionism in the European Union. The Commission is unhappy over moves by France, Spain and Poland to protect their economies from foreign investors and will welcome Germany's support. However, relations between France and Germany are likely to cool as a result.
