Hans-Georg Maaßen, President of the German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), stated during a conference in Berlin on 25 February 2015 that Russia had bolstered its espionage activities in European states during the course of the Ukraine crisis, employing tactics of Russia's former Soviet KGB intelligence agency.
