Georgieva won’t run for UN Secretary General / Bulgarian enters race for UN top job

EurActiv reported in November 2015 the European Commission vice-president Kristalina Georgieva planned to run for the job of UN Secretary-General, to replace Ban Ki-moon, whose second term was scheduled to expire on 31 December 2016.

However, a brief press released published on 8 February 2016 by Bulgaria's government said that Ms Georgieva would not run for the position. The country's ministry of foreign affairs later announced that UNESCO's chief Irina Bokova would be Bulgaria's name for the position.
