Date: 11/06/1998 The Japanese government seems to be taking a tough new line in its trade relations with the EU. It has sent an expert in the martial art of Aikido to work on secondment in the European Commission's Directorate-General for industry (DGIII). Yoshide Esaki has temporarily left his country's ministry of international trade and industry to take up a post as a specialist in industrial cooperation between the countries of central and eastern Europe, and has already begun making friends in Brussels by teaching Aikido in the city three times a week. |
