Summary: Evidence shows that the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have gone far beyond the disease itself. It has exacerbated existing inequalities between women and men in almost all aspects of life. The pandemic has had a disproportionate impact on women. Social and economic inequalities have deepened. There has been an increase in gender-based violence within households. The burden of unpaid care and domestic work has increased for women and girls. Women are also losing their livelihoods faster. This has taken a disproportionate toll on the mental and emotional health of women. To help understand this issue, and to mark International Women’s Day 2022, the Council Library has compiled a library guide of resources about how COVID-19 has affected women’s roles in society. |
