The objective of this study was to contribute to the gathering of data available on women’s participation in lifelong learning and to make recommendations concerning non-academic lifelong learning, in particular adult education, for women. The relationship of learning for access to, and promotion in, the labour market was also considered. As part of the study, a selection of European countries were made which, it was felt, would enable analysis of the most important issues in the field of gender and lifelong learning. The countries selected were Germany, the Republic of Ireland, Greece, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom. An additional section discusses childcare provision as a specific point of interest from the Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. |
