The impact of gender inequalities on women’s and men’s health can take a number of forms, affecting not only health outcomes and health status, but also access to preventive and curative services. Moreover, the different health needs and opportunities available to men and women accompany them throughout their life course, from infancy to adolescence and adulthood.

For these reasons, promoting policies that acknowledge the differential effects of gender roles and norms on health is crucial, not only to rectify any negative biases or inequities between genders but also to ensure the success of intended policy outcomes.
