After much delay, the European Commission has awarded contracts for work to start on building the highly-anticipated Galileo space navigation system.

The European Commission announced on 7 January 2010 the awarding of three contracts to launch the first batch of 14 satellites for Europe’s Galileo global navigation satellite system.
