G8 mood and Doha talks ‘show disconnect’

Whilst agriculture negotiations have virtually stalled at the World Trade Organisation's Doha Round, G8 leaders meeting in Scotland on 6-8 July 2005 showed determination to push the Doha Round forward. However, in the negotiating process at the WTO, trade officials and campaigners are unanimous in identifying the main sticking point as the European Union's refusal to compromise on the formula used to cut farm tariffs.
