Summary: The annual G20 Summit was held on 28 and 29 June 2019 in Osaka hosted by Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe. Further information: Donald Trump announced before the beginning of the summit that he is looking forward to meeting the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk about tariffs; and the Chinese President Xi Jinping. The French President Emmanuel Macron affirmed that he will not sign any statements that does not include ambitious climate language. On the 29 of June, 19 leaders of the G20 - all of them except the President of the US - agreed on a final communiqué. It reaffirmed their commitment to the Paris Agreement signed in 2015 to combat climate change. The 'G20 Osaka Leaders' Declaration' also mention the need for free, fair and non-discriminatory trade policy. |
