Future of Jeroen Dijsselbloem as Eurogroup president

Following the results of a general election held in the Netherlands in March 2017, media sources reported on the future of the outgoing Dutch finance minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem, who also held the presidency of the Eurogroup.

Mr Dijsselbloem was likely to leave his portfolio in the Dutch government, raising questions over his continuation in the informal group of Eurozone finance ministers. Later comments on southern European countries - seen as discriminatory by some stakeholders - further deepened uncertainty.

The European Parliament further criticised Mr Dijsselbloem following his refusal to appear at a hearing, adding to the calls for his resignation.
