Following further disruption in the first week of May 2010 in parts of Ireland and the United Kingdom, a huge cloud of ash from Iceland's Eyjafjallajoekul volcano draped itself over a large swath of southwestern Europe on the 8 May 2010, closing airports in Spain and Portugal and causing delays in intercontinental air travel.
