Features previewing and reporting that hundreds of thousands of French workers staged a one-day national strike on the 29 January 2009 calling for an end to job cuts, a reversal of their government’s reform programme and higher welfare payments to help soften the economic crisis. Some features put the actions in France in a wider context of increasing social unrest in Europe highlighting recent incidents in Iceland, Greece, Bulgaria, Latvia and Lithuania |
