On 28 October 2014, the French Parliament voted to reduce France's 2015 development budget in 2.8%, bringing it down to €2.79 billion

In response to this reduction, French MPs defied the government and voted in favour of an amendment to reassign €35 million from the French programme of loans to developing countries to the programme of donations to the poorest countries.

According to a study published by the French Development Agency (AFD), 88% of French citizens feel ill-informed about public development aid.
