The Freedom of Information Act 2000 came fully into force in the United Kingdom in January 2005, providing a general right of access to information held by some 100,000 public authorities. The Committee's report examined the extent to which public bodies were prepared for the implementation of the Act, focusing on three representative sectors of the police, the health sector and local government. It also looked at the role of the Department for Constitutional Affairs, which was responsible for overall co-ordination of preparatory measures for its implementation. |
