A Franco-Chinese consortium led by French energy giant EDF signed a deal in October 2013 to build at least one next-generation nuclear reactor in the UK, which would supply at least 7% of the UK's electricity. Deutsche Welle wrote that though the UK deemed nuclear power as indispensable for its energy policy, Germany was currently phasing it out completely, with Italy having scrapped all plans and France looking to decrease its dependence on atomic energy. |
