France joins EU enlargement dispute

France has joined the growing dispute over the financial cost of European Union enlargement by putting down a first marker on agriculture. After remaining on the sidelines during the unresolved dispute between Spain and Germany over the future financing of structural funds for the poorer regions once enlargement takes place, France is strengthening up its negotiating position over agriculture.
