Forget the hymns to closer union and fix the economy

Commentary feature which concludes that the Constitutional Treaty as one of the grand gestures of unity, which Europe has had too much of, is dead. Author suggests that much trouble now lies ahead but that it is essential that Europe at least tries to deliver durable prosperity to its people in today's challenging world. Otherwise, he argues, the European project may yet founder.
