The European boss of Ford Motor Stephen Odel, the continent’s fourth-ranked carmaker by sales, complained in May 2012 about 'significant imbalance' in trade in cars under a free trade agreement with South Korea that took effect in 2011.

The remarks reflected automakers’ growing disquiet with free trade amid dismal industry-wide sales conditions, even as the European Commission aimed to conclude similar FTAs with India and Japan.
