On the morning of the 7 February 2009 the Munich Security Conference focused on security in Europe. The discussions addressed the topics of NATO, energy supply, Russia and the Middle East. With their joint appearance, Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk initiated a new edition of the “Weimar Triangle”. Ahead of the much-anticipated speech by US Vice President Joe Biden, they formulated European views and objectives in the context of future international cooperation and the future of NATO. There was also another debate concerning the relationship with Russia. |
