Date: 27/03/1997 The vacancy in the Directorate-General for transport (DGVII) left by the departure of Claude Chêne to become chef de cabinet to Competition Commissioner Karel van Miert has finally been filled. The post heading up the civil aviation policy unit, with special responsibility for negotiating international agreements, had - as officials put it - “a French flag on it”, and a Frenchman has now been found in the person of Michel Ayral, a director in DGIII (industry). The appointment comes just in time for the open skies negotiations with the Americans, which are due to take off at the beginning of April. |
