Summary: This report provides an overview of the short, medium, and long-term fiscal sustainability challenges facing the Member States of the European Union. Further information: The European Commission's Fiscal Sustainability Report (FSR) provides an update of fiscal sustainability challenges faced by Member States. As in previous editions, fiscal sustainability challenges faced by Member States are evaluated according to a comprehensive horizontal assessment framework. This framework brings together in a synthetic way results on debt sustainability analysis (DSA) and fiscal sustainability indicators. It presents an overview of fiscal sustainability challenges across different time horizons (short, medium and long term), and allows for the identification of the scale, nature and timing of fiscal sustainability risks. The Commission sustainability framework also considers additional risk factors to further qualify the overall assessment. This Report is divided into two volumes - the first one features the overall analysis, while the second volume features individual countries' analyses. The Council of the European Union adopted on 12 February 2019 a set of conclusions relating to this fiscal sustainability report. |
