The UK Health Secretary, Alan Johnson, announced on 8 May 2009, that the first step towards producing a European prototype of a swine flu vaccine had been achieved by the UK Health Protection Agency (HPA). HPA's National Institute of Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC) is the only centre in the United Kingdom and one of a handful around the world developing vaccine prototypes for the European vaccine manufacturers. |
