Summary:

This article discusses the implications of the Lisbon Treaty, if it is ratified; hence the end of the pillar system used by the European Union. The article examines the transitional rules of the Treaty of Lisbon. The transitional rules will entail a continued restriction for some time on the full jurisdiction of the Court and on the application of the full principles of the Community legal order to policing and criminal law acts.
