Farming is no longer just about producing food, but also supporting life itself

Agri-environment schemes come of age in 2008. John Taylor, director of policy for the Countryside Council for Wales, considers the challenges that lie ahead in the light of Common Agricultural Policy reforms and the threat of climate change.

Tir Gofal is the Welsh Assembly Government’s flagship agri-environment scheme. There are currently over 3000 farms in Wales in Tir Gofal covering over 300,000 hectares of land.
