On 18 September 2015, Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipilä and Minister of the Interior Petteri Orpo held a press conference on the migration pressures on Finland. The Government said it would monitor the situation closely, and the authorities had increased preparedness in Northern Finland. Pressures had built up significantly in the Tornio region, in particular. At the Justice and Home Affairs Council held in Brussels on the 22 September 2015 Finland abstained on the controversial vote on the European Commission proposal for the emergency relocation of 120,000 persons in need of international protection from member states exposed to massive migratory flows to other EU member states. |
