Evaluation of the instruments applicable to State aid in the agricultural and forestry sectors and in rural areas

Summary:

Report published by the European Commission on 11 May 2021, summarising the results of an evaluation of the State aid rules for the agriculture and forestry sectors and for rural areas.

Further information:

The assessment concluded that rules under scrutiny function appropriately, are broadly fit for purpose and meet the needs of the sectors concerned. They also contribute to the achievement of broader EU policy objectives. At the same time, the need for some targeted revisions was also revealed. These include clarifications of some concepts, further streamlining and simplification, as well as adjustments to reflect the latest priorities of the European Union (EU).

The agricultural State aid guidelines help Member States correctly apply EU rules on state subsidies in agriculture, forestry and in rural areas. The existing guidelines expire at the end of 2022 and require replacement.
