EU’s aviation scheme hits turbulence

On 1 January 2012, the aviation sector is set to become part of the European Union’s Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). The move has been on the cards since 2008, but as the start date nears, the voices of protest against it – from airlines and governments outside the EU – grow ever louder.
