Abstract:

Dod's Political Publishing, a leading UK publisher of specialist political biographical reference books, guides and directories related to parliamentary and government institutions, and Le Trombinoscope, a leading publisher of political biographical reference books in France, have collaborated to produce a new directory to the European Union called Eurosource 2005. This will be published in three separate volumes during the latter part of 2004. The rather complicated publishing pattern reflects the need for any '2005' directory to reflect the major institutional changes taking place during 2004: a new European Parliament and a new European Commission, in particular.

The first part, 'Eurosource. Guide to the New EU', which was published in the summer of 2004, is a 148-page volume comprising three sections. The first chapter, 'The impact of enlargement', presents background information on the May 2004 enlargement of the EU, focusing on the institutional impact. The second chapter, 'Commissioners' profiles', presents profiles of the thirty European Commissioners in office under Romano Prodi until the autumn of 2004. The third, and by far the largest, section in the book comprises 'Country profiles', containing a four-page introduction to each EU Member State with details of the political system and key members of the current government.

In October 2004 the second part of Eurosource 2005 is expected. This will consist of biographies and contact details for each of the Members of the European Parliament in the new Parliament from 2004, plus background information on many of the EU Institutions. The third part is due in December 2004 and will complete the information on EU Institutions and Agencies following the inauguration of the new European Commission.

It is also possible to receive access to the information electronically via the Eurosource homepage.
