Europe’s top Olympic official arrested in Rio over tickets sales

Police in Brazil arrested on 17 August 2016 a senior figure of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as part of an investigation over illegal Olympic ticket sales. Patrick Hickey was also the head of Ireland's Olympic Council and gead of the European Olympic Committees.

Later in month, three more senior Irish officials had their passports seized by Brazilian authorities in connection with the same investigation.
