Europe’s GM crops cover expands

Figures published by EuropaBio, the European biotech trade association, on 29 October 2007, show the area planted with genetically modified crops in Europe has grown by 77% since 2006.

The figures show that the cultivated acreage in biotech crops has quadrupled in France and more than doubled in the
Czech Republic and Germany. Spain, which is the largest cultivator of biotech crops saw increases of more than 40% and this after 10 years of cultivation of the same product.
