Europe’s battered antitrust chief outlines his package of reforms

Speaking at a press conference on 25 October 2002, Mario Monti, European Commissioner for Competition, dismissed calls for his resignation following a decision by the European Court of First Instance to overturn the veto of a merger between the packaging groups Tetra Laval and Sidel. Mr Monti presented a package of reforms aimed at restoring confidence in the system.
