2004, coinciding with the Olympic Games to be held in Athens, is the European Year of Education through Sports (EYES 2004). The website for the campaign was launched on 30 October 2003 at http://www.eyes-2004.info/244.0.html with a press event. The site is bright and eye-catching and already contains a reasonable amount of information at launch although there are inevitably a few “coming soon” areas as well. The menu is clearly laid out with the headings Home, European Year, About Education through Sport, Partners, Press, Events, Links and National Co-ordinating Bodies. Other sections such as Fun & Action and Aims can be reached from the home page. The plan for the year is already laid out with special monthly topics such as sport and competition, sport and gender, or sport and social inclusion. The Fun and Action section is designed to be interactive with the opportunity to test yourself on quizzes - “Are you a team player?” is the first test - or vote on your views on sports issues such as unfair behaviour. Further section on riddles and e-cards are due to be mounted shortly. The links area provides a lengthy A-Z list of contact details for a wide range of sports organisations but does not link onwards to their websites. Similar details are provided for the National Co-ordinating Bodies within member states. The campaign is being supported by a number of high profile sports stars and information about them can be found on the site.
