In the Western Balkans, the European Union has emerged as a legitimate embodiment of the European security order. Its integration strategy for the region represents a significant source of security provision by progressively incorporating international peace and conflict resolution strategies into the integration process. This article aims to analyse the distinct European Union approach to security through the lens of the constructivist theoretical paradigm. The article focuses on the Union's involvement in Macedonia and argues that this is a good case for demonstrating the EU's unique approach to security. Basing our thesis on this argument, we try to assess the EU's contribution to the security and peace of that country. |
