The German Chancellor, Gerhard Schröder met with European Commission President, Romano Prodi, at the Chancellery in Berlin on 4 March 2004. Their discussions focused on a number of pressing European Union issues, including the EU constitutional process, the EU summit in Brussels on 25-26 March 2004, the status of accession talks with Bulgaria and Romania, as well as membership prospects for Turkey. Schröder noted that both the European Commission and the German government would do everything they could to make research and the development of modern infrastructures a key element of European economic policy. |
