The UK Ministry of Defence's largest contract under the private finance initiative (PFI), is to be awarded to the UK-based Paradigm Consortium, led by the Astrium space systems venture. The contract is for Skynet 5, which will provide satellite communications for British forces deployed abroad. Astrium is 75 per cent owned by European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS), and 25 per cent by BAE Systems. |
